Chinese police trial amphibious crime-fighting robot
China has introduced the Rotunbot RT-G, an amphibious spherical robot designed to assist law enforcement in crime prevention and suspect apprehension. Developed by Logon Technology, this 125-kg (276-lb) robot can reach speeds up to 35 km/h (22 mph) on both land and water, making it a versatile tool for various terrains.
Key Features:
- Amphibious Design: The Rotunbot RT-G is capable of operating seamlessly on land and water, allowing it to navigate diverse environments effectively. New Atlas
- Non-Lethal Equipment: Equipped with tear gas dispensers, smoke bomb launchers, high-decibel horns, acoustic crowd dispersal devices, and net shooters, the robot can manage various situations without resorting to lethal force. Fox News
- Advanced Sensors: The robot features GPS for precise positioning, multiple cameras, and ultrasonic sensors for environmental awareness, obstacle avoidance, and threat tracking.
- Durability: Designed to withstand impacts up to four tonnes, the Rotunbot RT-G is robust enough to handle drops from knee-high ledges and navigate through mud, slush, and mild off-road conditions.
Current Deployment:
The Rotunbot RT-G is currently undergoing trials with police patrols in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, China. These trials aim to assess its effectiveness in real-world law enforcement scenarios.
This development represents a significant advancement in integrating robotics into law enforcement, offering a versatile and non-lethal option for crime prevention and suspect apprehension.
